The idea of Bahama Grandma’s Recipe Gift Book is born. The cookbook is a compilation of grandma’s secret recipes, along with the author’s childhood memories of cooking with her beloved family matriarch in her tiny, clapboard kitchen. Colorfully illustrated by the author herself and dotted with lively short stories, this is no ordinary Bahamian cookbook, it’s a work of art. Even though grandma is no longer with us, Desiree has captured her robust spirit in a character she calls Bahama Grandma. Since then Bahama Grandma has inspired a variety of Bahamian food themed gifts, with a cookbook, website and online shop that pay homage to her salty tongue, witty humor and deep Bahamian roots.
